How Pooh Was Born

Alan Alexander Milne was born on January 18, 1882 in London, England. He and his wife, Daphne Milne, had a son, Christopher Robin Milne on August 21, 1920. Christopher Robin had a toy swan with the name Pooh. When he was given a stuffed bear for his first birthday, Pooh the swan was all but forgotten and got lost. Edward Bear became Christopher's best friend and companion. They went everywhere together, including the zoo to see Christopher's favorite real live bear, Winnie. After awhile, Christopher decided that Edward Bear wanted a new name and put the names of two old friends together. Winnie the Pooh had been born. As he got older, Christopher was given a stuffed donkey for Christmas who he named Eeyore. Soon after, a favorite neighbor gave him a stuffed pig...you guessed it, he named him Piglet. Winnie the Pooh, Eeyore, Piglet and Christopher Robin were unseperable. His mother noticed this and suggested to her husband, who was an author of children's literature, that he write a story about Christopher Robin and his "friends". Thus the Winnie The Pooh stories we all know and love came to be. "Winnie The Pooh" first appeared in The London Evening News on December 24, 1925. The next night it was aired over the radio waves in London by the BBC. It was the first story to include Kanga and Roo, two of Chistopher Robin's new friends, bought by his father, more for story purposes than to play with. "House at Pooh Corner" was published in 1928 and was the first story to include Tigger. Alan Alexander Milne died on January 31, 1956 leaving behind the most wonderful stories that are loved and cherished by all ages. Thanks to all the Pooh fans for keeping Pooh and the gang going strong!

A Little About Me

Hi! My name is Amber, and I'm a huge Pooh and the gang fan. It all started when I was a junior in high school taking an Early Childhood Education class. Our preschool was called the Winnie-The-Pooh Nursery School. Of course we had to have Pooh related themes, toys, activities and even a Pooh visit occasionally. The kids loved it, and seeing how it made their eyes light up made me love it too. I've done a lot of research on Pooh and his friends, and I will try to use questions about all of them. If there are questions you would like to see on here, or if you just want to make a comment, please sign my guestbook or drop me a line. I'd love to hear from you! TTFN!!! Amber
